In 80% of people with vision-related conditions, blindness can be prevented.
For eighty-year-old Savitri, losing her eyesight meant being dependent on someone else and missing out on things she loved. Today, with her sight, she got her smile back. Nobody should lose the ability to see, especially when it is avoidable.
Like Savitri, 80 out of 100 people with vision loss could see again. Accessible eye care can make a difference, and you could become someone’s reason to see.
Help them see a better future
Join our mission to enable 1.5 lakh people to see again
At CBM India, we have a vision.
CBM India is a leading not-for-profit organisation committed to the cause of improving the lives of persons with disabilities and other disadvantaged communities in India.
For the last 56 years, we have been working tirelessly in over 25 states to reduce and prevent avoidable blindness in India. That includes everything from dispensing spectacles for refractive errors to enabling sight-restoration surgeries.
We are passionate about our mission but are limited by resources. We need people like you to help us change many lives along the way.
How do we bring about change?

Step 1: Creating awareness
We spread awareness on eye health and train workers and the community on disability inclusion.

Step 2: Identifying people
Our community mobilisers go from door to door to identify people who need eye care.

Step 3: Screening
Those who need advanced screening are referred to Vision Centers.

Step 4: Sight-restoration surgeries
Those who need treatment and sight restoration surgeries are then referred to the base hospital.

Step 5: Intervention at every step
From helping with treatment to supporting education and livelihood - we offer support at every step.

CBM India Trust is a leading not-for-profit development organisation committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities and other disadvantaged communities without discrimination in India. We have been working alongside persons with disabilities in over 25 states to remove cultural and environmental barriers to their full participation in health, education, and livelihood. We envision an inclusive, equitable society where all persons with disabilities can achieve their full potential. Our resources and expertise are directed towards minimising the conditions that lead to disability, promoting the voice and autonomy of persons with disabilities, and building inclusive and resilient communities with accessible healthcare and equitable economic and educational opportunities. We also ensure that disaster-affected populations have access to inclusive humanitarian assistance.
CBM India is the foremost organisation in disability-inclusive development, and we champion sustainable models to break the vicious cycle of poverty and disability. We support different opportunities for people with disability and other disadvantaged communities to address medical and educational needs, rehabilitation, livelihood opportunities, vocational training, and relief. Ultimately, we promote enabling environments to empower persons with disabilities as vibrant, contributing members of society. We are an established and trusted pan-Indian non-profit organisation working closely with corporates, government institutions, hospitals, and other non-profits in various capacities to serve the underserved and reach the unreached. Integrity is one of our core values, and we remain accountable to the children, women, and people with disability in this country who need social care and protection the most. We are accountable to you, our donors, to use your contribution well and be transparent in our allocation and implementation.
CBM India Trust's vision is an inclusive society in which all persons with disabilities achieve their full potential.
No, CBM India Trust is not an international organisation. We are an Indian non-profit organisation registered in 1994 as a public charitable trust under the Indian Trust Act 1882.
The affairs of the Trust are governed by the Board of Trustees, consisting of five trustees who are Indian citizens. CBM India Trust is managed by the Managing Trustee.
CBM International began its journey in India in 1967 as CBM Liaison Office with education initiatives for children with visual impairment. In 1994, CBM India Trust was registered as a distinct legal entity, and CBM International is one of the donors.
In the trust deed, the organisation is named 'CBM India Trust', and 'CBM' is an acronym for Christoffel-Blinden Mission. The 'C' comes from Ernst Jakob Christoffel, who founded CBM International, the 'B' comes from Blinden, which represents our work addressing blindness, and the 'M' comes from our mission to mainstream disability into all aspects of development.
CBM has a Christian origin. However, CBM India Trust is a non-religious organisation registered for social, educational, and economic activities. CBM India Trust works for the health, education, livelihoods, and inclusion of persons with disabilities without discrimination on religion, gender, community, caste, or creed.
We raise funds for our work with the help of individuals like you and through CSR grants from corporates, institutions, foundations, and international donors.
We ensure that resources are optimally used through detailed planning and budgeting, regular monitoring, auditing, and evaluation supported by a robust internal control system. As part of our programme assessment, our teams visit each project to meet with the staff, parents, children, and community members to evaluate the progress.
We have a programmatic approach where we work with communities towards inclusive development. To achieve sustainable impact, we pool all the donations we receive and allocate them to the specific programmes which ultimately benefit individuals. These programmatic reports will be shared with you every quarter. When combined with other donors, your contribution becomes a powerful means to support our vital work towards an inclusive and equitable future for vulnerable adults and children.
