We promote inclusive, sustainable development to break the vicious cycle of poverty and disability.

    Zero Project Innovation Award 2017 was presented to CBM India for disability inclusive organic farming in Geneva

  • 2016

    Empanelment with Government of India for Accessible India Campaign by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

  • 2016

    Collaboration with Central University in Assam and Mizoram to incorporate disability curriculum into social work courses.

  • 2004

    In recognition of exemplary contribution towards the elimination of avoidable blindness in India, CBM won an award from the Indian Government.

    Establishment of CBM India Trust

  • 1975

    Mr PG Michael was appointed as the first regional representative in India.

  • 1967

    Beginning of CBM’s projects in India in the fields of education, rehabilitation, and eye care.

CBM India’s strategic goals are to:

  • Strengthen the voice and autonomy of people with disabilities.
  • Build inclusive, resilient communities; with equal opportunities for economic empowerment, education and health for persons with disabilities.
  • Build inclusive and sustainable local and national systems and services.
  • Minimise the conditions which lead to disability and reduce the prevalence of diseases which cause impairments.
  • Ensure that populations affected by disasters have access to inclusive humanitarian assistance and protection

We work with people with disabilities, their representative organisations, community-based organisations, institutions, and local, state & central government.

    Zero Project Innovation Award 2017 was presented to CBM India for disability inclusive organic farming in Geneva

    Launched the Include Vidya campaign to promote inclusive education.

  • 2013

    Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) strategy was drafted for Government of India prepared with the National Trust

  • 2005

    With CBM and WHO support, the Sound Hearing 2030 Campaign was launched in South East Asia.

  • 1999

    Together with other NGOs and WHO, the initiative “Vision 2020: The Right to Sight” was launched.

  • 1989

    In Ramakrishna Vidyalaya, Coimbatore, a computerised Braille book production system was introduced. The College of Physical Education of the YMCA Chennai introduced the Bachelors of Mobility Science and Physical Education.

  • 1983-86

    The Institute of Ophthalmology at Joseph Eye Hospital, Tiruchy, was established to train ophthalmologists.

  • 1983-85

    Rehabilitation and special education courses were introduced at Holy Cross College in Tiruchy, Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya and Avinashilingam University for Women in Coimbatore.

  • 1979

    The concept of integrated education was promoted by CBM in discussions with the state government of Tamil Nadu.

  • 1978-80

    CBM and NASEOH assist the Helen Keller Institute for Deaf and Deafblind (HKIDB) in the development of the Sign Language Dictionary called “The Talking Hands”.

  • 1977

    In Musuri, Tiruchy, the first Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) programme was initiated.

  • 1975

    Ophthalmology services launched as part of CBM-supported hospitals in South and North India.

MBA, Human Resources. Certified as a Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2000 QMS Auditor/Lead Auditor Training by IRCA and NRBPT. Currently responsible for the HR Management and Administration for CBM in India since 2013. Prior to this Melanie was the management and systems administrator for CBM. Has also worked with other corporate companies as part of her professional journey.
