Amreen, a 20-year-old from a hamlet in Madhya Pradesh, is a bundle of energy and creativity with a passion for painting, sewing, and teaching.

Amreen has lived with a physical impairment since birth and requires assistance with some daily tasks. She was always a keen learner but had to discontinue her studies as schools were too far away and, without affordable accessible transport, daily commutes were simply not possible.

Amreen’s story came to our attention thanks to our work in the community. Recognizing her potential and the challenges she faced, we enrolled her in our program and continue to support her home-schooling. Our special educator visits her twice a week, providing personalized lessons and hands-on materials, making learning enjoyable and accessible. To make studying comfortable, we provided customized furniture. Amreen quickly picked up the teachings and excelled in her exams. She recalls,

CBM India’s assistance has been invaluable on many fronts, providing therapy tools, books, and conducting classes tailored to my needs. My parents too supported me wholeheartedly.

In addition to educational support, we provided Amreen with essential rehabilitation services. This significantly enhanced her independence and, as a result, she can perform everyday activities with greater ease.

Once facing barriers to learning, Amreen is now a dedicated teacher, guiding children in her community as part of our Engage, Educate, and Empower for Life (EEEL): Inclusive Hamara Gaon project in Narmadapuram. She conducts English classes at summer and winter camps and has set her sights on a brighter future. “I wish to continue my studies, take a computer course, and find a job to support my parents. I also want to enroll in a beautician’s course and establish a parlor near my home,” she says.
