Black was the only colour in Dayanand’s life. However, people like him, who live with complete blindness, are blessed with extra light within themselves. Most are often blind to it.
Some villagers looked at him with pity, some with disrespect, some with disgust, while others poked fun of him. Utterly broken, he used to wander around the village until he was spotted one day by Parivartan staff and pulled into a conversation.
When he learnt about the Parivartan programme from the staff member, his eyes shown with excitement as he realised how priceless the opportunity was.
Having himself enrolled at the Disabled People Organisation (DPO), he began to participate in the activities while also learning about disability rights and entitlements, and the various livelihood means available to them such as mushroom cultivation, plant nursery, and organic farming.
Post capacity building trainings, he took up goat rearing, vegetable farming, and mushroom cultivation which quadrupled his income. This turn of events, brought him much dignity and respect from the whole village.
